The Program in Textile Design aims at developing, creative ability and technical skill for designing in the textile sector for export and domestic markets. It prepares students to work in the Textile industry or with local artisans, the strategic values adding activity that makes the differences in transforming ideas into an economically viable and profitable prepsoition. Students develop ability to apply design, technical and computer skills for woven, printing and knitting industry through classroom, professional projects and industrial training. The program provides students with both the artistic skills to develop textile designs and understanding of textile materials necessary to develop textile products that are functional and attractive to customers
The program offers a four year full time Bachelor's Degree in Textile Design, there are six areas of specialization: Apparel prints, home textiles, lace/embroidery design, woven design, rug/carpet design and surface design.
The first year develops in the students the basic skills of drawing, color understanding, elements and principles of design and textile materials. The second year introduces the textile methods. In the third year the students learn about home and apparel textile design with some marketing and management skills. In the final year they will be able to choose their area of specialization and put all the knowledge and skills achieved through the past years for their final project. They could do an internship or present a thesis.
